Business casual for men is something that a lot of people will say has been taken to a bad extreme. Some say that in business there is no room for a men’s casual. In this day in age it is not unusual for a company to have at least one day of business casual for men and women. The traditional business casual for men is a suit without a tie and jacket. Though being accepted commonly now is khaki pants and a polo shirt. In this article I will give you some tips to help guide you while making your decisions when selecting attire for a business casual outfit for men.
Some pieces of attire that are acceptable for business casual men are jewelry, facial hair, and ties in some situations. A tie is not required in business casual for men but wearing a tie can not hurt your presentation. If you have any question as to whether to wear a tie or not then I suggest wearing one and taking it off if needed later in private. Long sleeved button ups are most common for men’s business casual. Remember to keep your colors light and no patterns or bright logos. If a polo is desired it must be tucked in. I would recommend only wearing a polo shirt to a business casual gathering when hot weather is present. As far as shoes go I would stick to nice leather shoes or non glossy dress shoes for men’s business casual. Wearing a plain but nice watch is a plus for business casual men. Most other jewelry for men should be very tasteful or none at all. Earrings for business casual men are unacceptable.
Men should pay extra attention when dressing business casual to make sure to wear socks that do not show skin when sitting down. Sometimes men seem to think that because they are wearing pants their socks don’t matter. Another important thing to remember if you have facial hair is that it should be very well groomed. Facial hair is one of those areas that you will have to judge yourself according to your employer/career choice as to whether to have any at all.
Business casual for men may mean many different things depending on your employer. So make sure and ask about the dress code for your specific employer. It is always acceptable to ask about the attire of any business gathering.
