Smart Casual

Unlike the business casual dress code, smart casual is a little more difficult to explain because there really are grey areas when it comes to specifics.

There is a difference between smart casual and business casual. Some people will disagree with me but in my opinion business casual is a definitive dress code while smart casual is more of a look that can be applied to the business casual dress code.

Smart casual for men is usually some sort of nice slacks with a button up. Shoes are fairly easy with smart casual because in most cases you can go by business casual guidelines. To be more specific with smart casual shoes both pull on loafers and boat shoes are acceptable. If you are looking to go a little more on the sophisticated side you can wear a sports coat. Smart casual for women has a little more to choose from when it comes to pieces of attire. Some of these pieces of clothing for women included in the smart casual attire are slacks, nice jeans, a short or long skirt. Both a blouse and a most turtle necks are acceptable for a smart casual dress code. Wearing a nice belt, sweater, vest, or jacket that fits with your outfit is a plus.

Smart casual is commonly used in the school community and is a great way to blend with your surroundings in a new school atmosphere. Smart casual is often used when someone is speaking in front of people or accepting an award. Smart casual comes across as a very laid back but well put together appearance. Smart casual is also a very good attire to approach a date with.

Overall a smart idea when putting together a smart casual outfit is to make sure your attire compliments itself when put together. Make sure you pay close attention to your accessories, shoes, and material when putting your outfit together.

Don’t forget to do some research before showing up. It is always better to ask someone that you think knows what to where to an occasion rather than show up in the wrong attire.
